How to cancel your Pro subscription
Cancel ScholarThread Pro any time from your account settings — no email, no form, no retention call. Here's the exact process, what happens to your data, and how refunds work.
We keep cancellation simple on purpose: you can cancel a Pro subscription at any time from your account settings. No email to write, no cancellation form to fill in, no retention call to sit through.
The steps
If you subscribed on the website:
- Click your avatar at the bottom of the left sidebar and choose Manage account.
- Open the Billing tab and select your Pro subscription.
- Choose Cancel subscription and confirm.
That's it. Your payment is processed by Stripe on our behalf, but you manage it right here in your account, so there is no separate portal to find. You can also open the same screen at /settings if you prefer a full page.
Subscribed through the App Store? Then Apple handles the billing, and the cancel button isn't in ScholarThread at all. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions → ScholarThread, and cancel there. Settings → Billing in the web app shows a note saying the same thing whenever your Pro plan comes from the App Store.
When it takes effect
Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — not immediately. You keep every Pro feature (bigger storage caps, priority support, and the rest) until that date. After it, your account rolls back to the Free tier.
Crucially, the tier change only affects features, not data. Your library, your notes, and your connections all stay exactly as they are. Downgrading to Free never deletes anything you've created — you simply lose the Pro-only headroom, and can re-upgrade later to get it back.
Refunds
We don't provide partial refunds for unused time in the current billing period, except where consumer-protection law requires it.
If you're a UK or EU consumer, you have a statutory 14-day right to cancel a distance contract for a full refund — but note that this right is lost once you actively use Pro-only features. By upgrading and starting to use Pro, you consent to that loss of the cancellation right. The full text lives in our Terms of Service (§8).
Changed your mind after cancelling?
You can re-subscribe any time before the current period ends — the pending cancellation is simply dropped and Pro continues uninterrupted. If you re-subscribe after the period has ended, it starts a fresh billing cycle at whatever price applies then.
Either way, there's nothing to lose by cancelling and nothing to reconstruct if you come back — your data is waiting where you left it.
